Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won major contracts to expand and upgrade high-voltage electricity grids in the Middle East, bolstering its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division. In Saudi Arabia, the company will implement High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission links, facilitating power exchange between regions and strengthening grid resilience. The orders include the establishment of ±500kV HVDC links, along with 380kV overhead transmission lines and a 380kV Gas Insulated Substation, key for integrating renewable energy.
In Abu Dhabi, L&T will construct two 400kV Gas Insulated Substations, featuring advanced electrical components and systems to enhance grid performance. T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director at L&T, emphasized the importance of these projects in creating a secure grid that can handle fluctuating renewable energy sources. The company classifies this order as “mega,” with a value exceeding Rs 7,000 crore, further solidifying its position as a global leader in engineering and construction.
