By India Today Web Desk: Recording a marginal decline in daily cases, India logged 121 fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, which further minimised the concerns of a new wave of Covid likely hitting the country amid a rise in cases in China.
According to the health ministry data, the number of active cases came down to 2,319 as compared to 2,371 a day earlier. Meanwhile, the total number of cases in the country has risen to 4,46,80,215. The country also saw one death due to the infection in the last 24 hours.
It has been nearly three weeks since the Indian authorities stepped up the vigil in the wake of a major Covid-19 surge in China. However, there is no sign of an uptick in infections in the country.
The Centre had sounded an alert and issued precautionary guidelines to states and Union Territories. Hospitals across India conducted mock drills on December 27, 2022, to check their level of preparedness in terms of equipment, procedures and manpower. The government also re-introduced random sampling of international travellers from December 24 onwards.
Owing to the timely action, last week saw a decline in fresh cases in India after two consecutive weeks of marginal rise. The overall fresh Covid cases have been low.
India reported 1,268 fresh cases during the week that ended this Sunday as compared to 1,526 in the previous one. The case count has remained below 2,000 for the past six weeks now.
India hasn’t seen a major spurt in Covid cases since July 2022, when the weekly count had peaked at 1.36 lakh.
